Another intense heatwave in Europe

Another intense heatwave is expected over most of the European continent for this week, with record-breaking maximum temperatures especially over Portugal, France and Spain.

🔥 The peak of the heatwave is forecast another time over Portugal, Spain and France.Last week’s hottest locations in Spain were Badajoz with 34.8°C and El Granado, Huelva with 34.6°C – which is around 8 to 10°C above the May average. Also in the next few days many locations will record maximum temperatures well above 30°C and some locations could break all-time records for May.

🚩 The re-strengthening of the Azores’ high-pressure system will gradually expand into central and northern Europe. It will cause a strong warm advection from the south towards the north, gradually strengthening and expanding into Germany, Benelux and Scandinavia. Also Norway, Sweden and Finland could see temperatures even more than 8 degrees warmer than normal.

➡️ A weather change is expected over most of Europe in the third week of May.A low-pressure area centered on Ireland and UK on May 20 will bring unsettled weather conditions from the next weekend, firstly over western Europe and afterwards over the rest of the European continent.Around May 24-25 the Atlantic trough will spread into central Europe and then the Mediterranean, bringing a temporary decrease of the maximum temperatures.
