Cyclone Jawad is likely to hit the North Odisha-South Andhra coasts on December 4 with winds speeds of 100km/h and heavy rainfall.
A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm Jawad on Friday and is likely to make landfall near Puri in Odisha on Sunday. Continuous rains were witnessed across the state’s Srikakulam district with windspeeds of 50kmph at few locations, Shrikesh B Lathkar, Collector & DM said, adding that a total of 79 cyclone shelters operation have been carried out since Friday.
The southern part of West Bengal is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty wind, as the weatherman forecast that cyclone Jawad is likely to recurve towards the state’s coast after reaching west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts on Saturday morning.The areas which will be impacted the most include north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha.Very heavy rainfall is expected in these areas and a red alert has been issued for some districts.The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura over the weekend.
