Intense cold blast in south-estern Europe

An intense cold blast gradually continues spreading towards south-eastern Europe, with Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Cyprus and Turkey from today into early next week being the most impacted.

🌡 Temperatures of even lower than 12°C below zero at the 850 mbar level, approximately 1200 m above sea level, are forecast.The southern Balkan peninsula and Turkey will see extremely anomalous temperatures with daytime hours being 10-12°C below normal.This is extremely cold for mid-March and some areas have already experienced the coldest days of this Winter Season 2021/22 the last weekend, although we’re actually already at the beginning of the meteorological spring 2022.

❄ The Arctic cold air mass is also be very cold in the lowest levels, especially today and tomorrow.On Sunday morning deep freezing temperatures will spread as far east and south as to southern Balkans, Cyprus and Turkey.Becoming particularly extreme over Greece, with potentially sliding even below -5°C in some areas on Sunday morning.Farther east, across Romania and Ukraine, temperatures will plunge well below -5°C, possibly even below -10°C in places.
