Extreme heat over most of the European continent

The intense heatwave over most of the European continent is breaking historical records of maximum temperatures in many locations.

🚩 Today some locations of southern Italy exceeded 42°C.

Yesterday Rome (Italy) recorded 40.7°C, Saltdal (Norway) 31.6°C, Vihti Maasoja (Finland) 31.4°C.

This exceptional and record breaking heat comes from North Africa, where today some locations are close to 50°C.

Yesterday Medenine (Tunisia) recorded 47.8°C but today’s maximum temperatures could be higher.

⛈️ Severe thunderstorms are expected today across the Ligurian Sea into parts of N Italy and S Austria/W Slovenia mainly for large to very large hail, severe wind gusts and excessive rain.

Other thunderstorms are forecast in the sorrounding areas with similar hazards but a lowered coverage of severe.

Heavy rain and isolated hail/severe wind gusts are expected also across Norway and Sweden.
