Another round of severe storms is expected across the Southeastern U.S. today, with possible tornadoes, damaging gusts and large hail.
Scattered severe t-storms will develop once again in the afternoon over parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, northern Florida and South Carolina with damaging wind gusts and perhaps a few tornadoes.Meanwhile, a powerful jet stream plunge will carve into the Mississippi Valley, driving a strong cold front into the Southeast, where warm and humid air will still be in place. That will help fire up additional scattered severe t-storms ahead of the cold front in the Tennessee Valley and Appalachians in the late afternoon and night capable of damaging wind gusts and perhaps a tornado or two.
That cold front will reach the East Coast on Thursday while the larger low pressure system lumbers through the Midwest. But before the front moves offshore, scattered thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and hail are possible through Thursday afternoon from the southern Delmarva Peninsula to the Virginia Tidewater, eastern Carolinas and parts of Florida.
