Hurricane Lisa is expected to make landfall in Belize later today, bringing dangerous conditions to several countries in Central America, while tropical storm Martin has just become a hurricane in the open Atlantic.
1️⃣ At 12.00 UTC, the center of Hurricane Lisa was about 60 miles (100 km) north of Isla Roatan, Honduras.
On the forecast track, the center of Lisa will move just north of the Bay Islands of Honduras in the next few hours, make landfall in Belize later today, and then cross northern Guatemala and move into southeastern Mexico by Thursday.
The maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast as Lisa approaches Belize.
2️⃣ In the meantime, Martin has become the seventh hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic season.
At 15.00 UTC, the center of Hurricane Martin was about 1280 miles (2060 km) west of the Azores.
It is now moving toward the east-northeast near 26 mph (43 km/h).
A turn to the northeast and a rapid increase in forward speed are expected during the next couple of days.
Martin should get larger and stronger through tomorrow, gradually lose strength from Thursday through the weekend, but remain a very large cyclone over the far North Atlantic.
